- By means of a diesel generator – to preserve larger capacities for a longer period of time. In this case, there is a power interruption of a few seconds to a few minutes.
- Via UPS – mainly for redundancy of limited capacities for a short time. The interruption is for a very short period of time or is completely absent – completely uninterruptible redundancy.
- Combination of diesel generator and UPS – in this case the UPS takes over the power supply until the diesel generator starts.
- Provision of a higher category external power supply via a second 20kV supply cable.

Technical and detailed design for uninterruptible power supply
The solutions for uninterruptible power supply can be laid down as early as the conceptual and technical investment project phase of the electrical part of the site. In the absence of these, it is necessary to prepare a supplementary technical design to determine the required system parameters and the most appropriate type of solution. Based on these, the most suitable apparatus is selected according to the technical and economic indicators and a detailed solution is provided through a detailed design, which serves as a an exact proposal to the installers.
Comfort for hotel guests via diesel generator
Higher category hotels require the provision of back-up power via a diesel generator. Typically, chillers and other HVAC equipment are not included, as the discomfort of shutting down these systems occurs only after the shutdown. For more upscale hotels, all other equipment is preserved while for other type of accommodation, only the lights and TVs in the common areas are included. If the power putgae is not in combination with a UPS the diesel generator starts within seconds.
Reservation of computers in an office building
For office buildings with many computers, a central UPS is often provided, sometimes in combination with a diesel generator. The UPS can provide both complete power continuity and protection of the computers from power surges in the network. The other approach is to have each individual computer with its own small UPS. In former, it is necessary to provide a corresponding “UPS” box in the electrical distribution boards.
Large manufacturing enterprises
In some industries, process disruption can lead to significant economic losses for the company. When the required redundant capacities are significant the most appropriate solution is to require the company that will provide the external power supply to build an additional redundant line connected to a separate substation outlet. In this case, it is necessary to design and build a system for automatic switching on of the 20kV reserve supply line.
