Solutions for transformer substations and medium voltage installations
Design and construction of 20kV facilities – standard and non-standard transformer substations for industrial, commercial and administrative buildings, hotels, etc. We offer the following types of services, which can be performed end-to-end or on independent parts of the project::
- Design of transformer substations and cable power supplies – design and cost-estimate documentation with the necessary calculation, schematics and explanatory notes with recommendation for of the most suitable system and detailed proposal to the installers.
- Construction of transformer posts and cable feeders – with delivery and installation of the selected equipment according to the project by our trusted subcontractors.
- Replacement of old MV equipment – with design, delivery and installation to upgrade and increase capacity and functionality.
For high power sites, a 20kV power supply is provided. For the conversion of the voltage from 20kV to 230/400V, a transformer station shall be built. Some of the medium voltage (MV) installation and installation solutions are:
- Typical transformer substation on the site of the powered system providing electricity supply.
- Non-standard built-in substation – built into the building of the respective site.
- 20kV metered switchgear – for connection to the external 20kV network of an internal transformer substation on the site.
- Switchgear with AVR at 20kV – at sites with a second, backup power supply on the 20kV side and automatic switching in case of failure of the main power supply.
- In-plant network CpH – for industrial sites with a network of transformer stations connected by power cables.
Why choose us:
Over three decades of electrical installation experience, our knowledge of electrical installation work in investment projects has been enriched by a wide variety of technical case studies. We urge you to take advantage of our invaluable experience for your investment.
Having a design team for so long contributes to a high level of competence in electrical installation due to excellent knowledge of current standards and regulations.
It is important to us to provide the client with a well-crafted and functional electrical installation for many years to come.
Example solutions with own transformer posts:
Virtually every building is powered from a nearby substation. In the case of smaller capacities, the transformer substation is usually in-house at the relevant electricity distribution company and is part of the city network. However, in many cases the transformer substation is owned, designed and built by the developer and is located on his property. Some cases for in-house transformer substations for which we offer design and construction are:
Hotel complex 4 stars, with 160 rooms and SPA center
For such sites the electricity distribution companies usually prescribe a 20kV cable supply, which requires a transformer substation. Metering is on the 20kV side, resulting in a lower cost of electricity for the hotel. Design and build in-house transformer substation – standard design. It shall be positioned within the site plot at the required distances as per the regulations so as not to disturb guests. It supplies the main electrical panel of the entire hotel.
Office building with built-in transformer station
Due to the lack of a suitable location in the building plot, a non-standard transformer substation is designed and built into the building itself, in compliance with the specific architectural and structural fire protection requirements. For this purpose, the parameters of the substation were defined at the conceptual design stage and the necessary spaces and requirements were set out at the beginning of the design process in the architectural and structural plans.
Commercial building with remote main electrical panel from property boundary
For minimum power losses and low installation costs at sites located on a large site, it is economically feasible to construct only a 20kV commercial metering switchgear at the property boundary where the commercial metering is required, and to locate the substation itself inside the parcel, as close as possible to the largest electrical consumers. The transformer substation may be either a built-in or stand-alone type.
Large industrial site, fed by two substations
For large industrial plants, where an interruption of the external power supply could result in large losses from production shutdown, it is reasonable to require the distribution company to provide two separate 20kV supplies – main and standby. In this case, the Electrical Designer and the Developer are negotiating with the company and a 20kV arrangement with automatic switching of the standby supply is envisaged in the event of a main power failure.
